ORGANIC Pu'erh White Tea, Loose - 2 ounces, pu-erh tea, Camellia sinensis

$5.15

Organic Pu'erh White Tea, Loose. You will get 2 oz of loose white pu-erh tea. Pu-erh tea, camellia sinensis.

White buds from old Yunnan Pu'erh trees are used to create this delicate white tea. The leaves are fermented in the traditional style, but only using unopened fuzzy leaf buds. Pu-erh is the most oxidized form of tea and can mellow and improve with age like fine wine. The Pu’erh White Tea is very light in color with a subtle and agreeable flavor, with delicate notes of wildflower honey.

Daily serving size: Pour 8-12 oz of simmering water (180° F preferred) over 1 tsp. of tea. Steep 2-3 minutes.

Pu-Erh Tea has long been considered to be an almost medicinal food product in China. The tea is specially created and fermented, giving it not only a smooth and earthy flavor, but this fermentation process also helps produce micro-organisms which are being shown to be beneficial to the human body.

Health Benefits of Pu-Erh Tea:

Aids in Weight Loss
Studies have shown that pu-erh tea significantly suppresses fatty acid synthesis (FAS). This means that it can literally block your body from producing more fat. Pretty cool, right? The process of lipogenesis (creation of fat by the liver) is blunted by using this traditional tea. On top of that, the caffeine found in pu-erh triggers your body to secrete the hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine which are shown to increase mobilization of stored fatty acids in fat cells. This enables your body to have easier access to use those stored fatty acids as fuel (and not keep it on your belly). Lastly, pu-erh has been clinically proven to enhance cellular levels of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) which effectively blocks visceral fat accumulation. HSL is a critical enzyme that “unlocks” fat cells so that their contents can be emptied out.
Important to note, pu-erh tea is not a fad diet or miracle cure. Using pu-erh to lose weight, like all other traditional methods, requires persistence and determination. You will not notice results in an instant. Instead, you will experience gradual improvement of your energy levels, overall well being and last but not least, gradual weight loss. In one French study, participants recorded weight loss was from five to ten pounds over a two-month period. To achieve best possible results, follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly in addition to your teatox, and drink pu-erh tea about an hour after each meal (or simply after breakfast or lunch) to reduce the amount of fat that is retained and stored from your meal.

Reduction in Cholesterol
New studies with Pu-Erh Tea and health benefits have made a startling discovery; Pu-Erh does contain small amounts of lovastatin, which in synthetic form is commonly used to treat high cholesterol. Additional studies have shown that long term use of appropriate amounts of Pu-Erh teas have the potential to lower LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) and increase HDL levels (the good cholesterol). There have also been some cases where extensive use of Pu-Erh has resulted in a drop of nearly 100 points in cholesterol levels.

Bad Breath
While it is not going to be a replacement for brushing and flossing, consumption of Pu-Erh is actually shown to help fight bad breath. Bad breath is caused by germs and bacteria that bond to the teeth and gums that come from the food we consume. The combination of phyto-chemicals and micro-organisms present within Pu-Erh actually work against these particular germs and bacteria, improving oral health and preventing future bad breath.

How do you prepare Pu-erh Tea?

Traditional Method:
Measure three grams* of tea to 6 oz of water. Pour 208-212 degree water over the leaves, and steep for 10-20 seconds. Pour off the water. This is called rinsing the leaves. It removes impurities and allows the leaves to begin opening. Pour in another 6 oz of 208-212 degree water, steep about 30 seconds and serve. The same leaves can be re-steeped in a similar fashion 4-8 times, perhaps adding 15-30 seconds to each steeping time.
Western Method:
Many westerners prefer a stronger brew. Using the same proportions of tea and the same water temperature, Pu-erh can be brewed almost indefinitely: five minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, even 50 minutes. When Pu-erh is steeped a long time it can become as full-bodied and dark as coffee, but it never turns bitter, acidic, or astringent. It just gets stronger, thicker, fuller, and sometimes sweeter. This is a very untraditional preparation method.
